Clutter. It is something that just seems to slowly grow over time. You may not even realize that your home has become cluttered. It is such a slow and gradual process that many people never even realize that their house has become a big cluttered mess. The definition of clutter is a collection of things that are not organized, or in a mess, but clutter could also just refer to too much stuff in one space. Clutter and moving are two things that don’t really go together all that well, and here is why.

In order to move you are most likely going to have to sell your house. It will help the house sell quicker, and it will make it easier for the real estate agent to show the house to prospective home buyers. Clutter can also make life a little harder to deal with. If you can’t get around in your own home, then it will be difficult to relax when you are at home amongst all of your clutter. So what can you do about it? You will have to get rid of that clutter. Think of it as a sort of Spring cleaning.

There are a lot of people that have a difficult time getting rid of their clutter, and there is one simple reason for this. These people have become emotionally attached to their clutter. In some way or another, they have become connected with their clutter, and this makes it very difficult for them to get rid of it. So the very first step in removing your clutter does not have anything to do with actually physically removing the clutter. You need to remove any type of attachments that you have with the clutter. Let go of it. You don’t need all of these things, and if you are moving it will make things much easier if you get rid of most or even all of it. You can start over when you get to your new location.

If you have quite a bit of clutter you made need to do what is called a pre-move. This is exactly what it sounds like. You will need to get your clutter together, and get rid of it. Do a good deed and donate all of your clutter to a charity that could use it. There are plenty of charities out there that are willing to help people, and donating to charity is also a great tax write-off.

You need to conserve it.

Not only will you have to conserve your water, but you will also need to conserve your energy. Take everything nice and easy. The heat can really suck all of the energy and strength right from your body. Believe it or not, there are quite a few things that people forget about when they are moving. There are so many things to do when you move, and it is so easy to forget a thing or two once things get started. It can be difficult to keep it all together and not forget something. Here are some tips that will keep you from forgetting the important things.  

 

 

 

A checklist will help you remember

Making a checklist is the best way to keep from forgetting anything. If you have it all written down on a piece of paper, or in your smart phone, then there is no reason to forget it. It will always be right at your fingertips. If you think that you are forgetting something, then just take a look at your handy list.

Get all of your important paperwork together

You should be keeping all of your important paperwork and documents in one location anyways. This is one thing that a lot of people forget about, and when they do forget these documents, they always regret it. This should be one of the first things on your list.

Don’t forget the pets

This is not common, but it does happen. Some people get so wrapped up in moving that they forget their pets. It could be the family dog, but most pets that get forgotten are smaller pets like: fish, snakes, or turtles. Don’t leave your pets behind.

Pack a small carry on bag for each person in your family

This will not only keep you from forgetting some very important things, but it will also help everyone stay organized a little better. Things to include in these bags will vary depending on the person. For your children, make sure that you pack their favorite toys, and a few pairs of their favorite clothes. You will need to pack enough things to keep them occupied during the move.

For the adults there should be a contact list in each bag. This way each person will have all of the important contact numbers that they need at all times. One of the most common things that people forget to take with them is their cell phones. These little devices will often get left behind on a counter or a window sill. Keep it in your pocket, and you won’t forget it.

What about food and water

You are going to need enough food and water for everyone in the family, including the pets. Each person should have at least two bottles of water, and enough food for around three meals. You could always eat while you were on the road, but if you are on a budget, then you would be better off packing plenty of food for moving day. A good sized cooler will be able to keep things nice and fresh for the drive.

The best way to keep from leaving things behind, is to keep your cool. Moving can be stressful, and stress can make you forget things. Keep calm, keep a checklist, and you won’t have any problems.

There is a good time, and a bad time to move. The current housing market has seen some much needed changes. The massively inflated prices of homes are starting to drop, and homes are becoming more affordable. The dream of owning your very own home is getting easy every day. Will the lower prices continue, or will they start to rise again? It looks like they may have stopped falling. So now is the perfect time to buy a house.

This type of housing market puts most of the power into the hands of the buyer. A homeowner still has the ultimate deciding factor, but when homes are not moving that quickly, some homeowners are more anxious to sell.

If you are in the market for a new house, then the ball is in your court. The current housing market is what is referred to as a buyer’s market. This simply means that a buyer has a little more power over the sale than a seller. In a seller’s market, the seller will have most of the bargaining power.

The Hidden Costs of Renting A Moving Truck

At first it may seem like renting a moving truck is the cheapest way to get the move done, but renting a moving truck does have some hidden costs that most people forget to factor into their budget. The total amount of money that you pay to the moving truck company will not be the only charges that you will face. Don’t forget to add these costs into your budget too.

Add up the fuel.
You will be required to pay for all of the fuel that you use while driving the moving truck, and some moving truck companies will require you to drop the moving truck off with a full tank of gas. There is an easy way to calculate this cost. Ask the moving truck company how many miles per gallon the moving truck gets. You don’t need an exact answer, just a rough estimate. You want the estimate to be on a fully loaded truck too.

Once you get the estimated average miles per gallon, you need to figure out how many miles you need to drive the moving truck. Divide the total amount of miles by the miles per gallon to find out how many gallons of fuel you are going to need. Now you can multiply that by the current cost of gas. Now you have another number to add to your moving budget.

Pay the toll or ride on the freeway?
Does your moving route require you to pay any tolls along the way. Toll roads can really shave off a lot of driving time, but it comes at a cost. Don’t forget to add all of the tolls up and add them to your budget.

Do you need insurance?
This really depends on the moving truck rental company. Some companies will require you to purchase an insurance policy from them, and others don’t. Your own insurance may cover you during the move. Call your insurance company and find out.

But wait there is more.
Just when you thought that you had all of the costs tabulated and ready to factor into your budget, a few more costs appear. Don’t forget to factor in the cost of food on the road. Are you going to pack meals, or are you going to eat on the road? Eating takeout for the entire trip can add a sense of fun and adventure, but it can also make the cost much higher. Balance it out.

Don’t forget about room and board too. If your trip requires you to stay a night or two at a hotel room, then you have to add the cost of the hotel room into your totals.

Mileage too?
Will you have to pay a per mile driving charge, or will you be able to drive the moving truck for unlimited miles? Ask the rental company before you sign the deal. If you have to pay for mileage, add it up.

Uncle Sam is going to get his hands in there too. You will have to pay taxes on the truck. Now that you have all of the hidden costs of renting a moving truck, you will know how much it is going to cost.
